Preparing Your Property Before the Scaffolding Arrives

Having scaffolding erected is usually one of the first steps before work begins on your property. Whether you’re having your roof replaced, new windows installed or the outside of your home rendered, there are a few simple things you can do beforehand to help everything run smoothly.
Most of these only take a few minutes, but they can make a big difference on the day.
Make Sure There’s Clear Access
Before the scaffolders arrive, make sure there’s enough room for them to get to the area where the scaffolding is being erected.
Move any vehicles off the driveway if they’re likely to be in the way and clear any bins, garden furniture or other items that could restrict access. The quicker the team can get to work, the quicker your scaffolding can be put up.
Let Your Neighbours Know
If the scaffolding is going up close to a neighbouring property, it’s always worth giving them a heads up.
You don’t need to make a big deal out of it, but letting them know there may be a bit more activity outside for a few hours is simply common courtesy. If access is particularly tight, it can also help avoid any surprises on the day.
Protect Anything Valuable
Scaffolders take care while working, but it’s always sensible to move anything fragile or valuable away from the working area.
This could include plant pots, garden ornaments or outdoor furniture. If you’ve got anything hanging on an external wall where the scaffolding is going, it’s worth removing that too before the team arrives.
Keep Pets and Children Away
Putting scaffolding up involves moving equipment and working around the outside of the property.
If you have children or pets, it’s best to keep them indoors or away from the working area until everything has been completed.
That’s About It
Preparing your property doesn’t need to be complicated. As long as there’s clear access and the area around the property has been tidied, the scaffolding team can usually get straight to work.
